Retro and vintage decor, do you know the difference?

Hi guys, hope you all are doing well. Whether you are a fan of esthetic from past decades, collect ancient objects, or simply like to get out of conventional, maybe you have already thought to make a retro or vintage décor, but do you know which is the difference? Do you know how to combine styles between them or among other styles? I am going to clarify these questions here in this post.

What the characteristics of a vintage décor

The main characteristic of vintage décor is the originality of this age, to be considered in this classification the furniture and objects must belong to decades between 1920 and 1960. What was produced before this period is not vintage anymore, but just old. Those which were used in the 70ths and 80ths is considered a new vintage.

They are original pieces, for acquiring them you must resort to an antiquary or a garage selling, as they are rarities, they usually have high prices. Other ways to acquire vintage décor and object are a heritage from relatives, besides coming full of history, they have an enormous sentimental value.

For compounding a vintage décor , we utilize sober colors on the wall, like pastel tons. The idea is to transmit the sensation that the color faded over time, besides that, these clear tons will get to highlight the unique furniture and objects.

Small crochet towels, grandma's tea set, record player, black and white portraits with old frames, coffee grinder, those advertising boards from the past, will beautifully compose the vintage environment.

What the characteristics of a retro decoration

The word comes from French rétrospectif (retrospective), something related to the past, in this manner, the best definition to this style of decoration is that it is a re-lecture, they are new furniture and objects, with actual technology, but inspired in past decades.

Retro is irreverent and fun, there are many options that go from the checkered coating, perfect to kitchen’s floor, to modern home appliances with a nostalgic and colorful design. See some beautiful examples:

Retro home appliances and furniture usually have strong colors, the furniture design is full of style, tapered legs and curves are elements always present, for this reason, it is important to take care, otherwise, the ambient could get heavy.

How to combine the vintage and retro

You do not need to choose only one style for your home, as I have already said many times here, the cool is to know the possibilities and play with them, thereby your decoration gets with your way and personality. You can inclusive have a neutral base, with just some vintage or retro pieces, it gets singular and very beautiful.

For those who want a cozy decoration and full of memory can combine rustic and vintage, compound with heritage family objects, for instance: father’s writer machine, coffee grinder of a dear aunt, a delightful armchair, guys it gest amazing.

If you want a fun and functional kitchen, you could use a checked floor, typical of the American cafeterias of the decade 1950, with modern contemporary furniture and vintage appliance with vibrant color.

You know! I really like to decorate home with memories, I have even recorded a video about it. Regardless of the décor style, I think it important to display pieces that bring good rememberings to my home and my clients. Vintage objects have all to do with that, that dinner set which belonged to our mother, an embroidery made by gramma, everything that has much more value than an expensive piece from antiquary, because it comes full of memories and affection. Watch here on the video some pieces that I have inherited from my family.

What did you think about my trousseaus that I have been gifted by my mom and my mother-in-law? Have you already stopped to think about how many happy moments they were present? A lot of emotions, my people!

Do you have any family pieces there at your home? Tell me!

Kisses
